【基本的な３つの用法】
① 原級「…と同じくらい～」
② 比較級「…よりも～」
③ 最上級「もっとも～」
①原級「…と同じくらい～」
Ken is as tall as Mike.
（ケンはマイクと同じくらい背が高いです。）
☑ “as～as…“の形で「…と同じくらい～」という意味を表します。
Kumi can run as fast as Keiko.
（久美は恵子と同じくらい速く走ることができます。）
☑ 形容詞だけでなく副詞も原級の文で使うことができます。
This pencil is not as long as that one.
（この鉛筆はあの鉛筆ほど長くありません。）
☑ 否定の形(not as～as…)では「…ほど～ない」という意味を表します。
【問１】次の日本文を英文にしなさい。
Our teacher is as old as my father.
I get up as early as my mother.
This dog isn’t as big as that one.
②比較級「…よりも～」
Ken is taller than Mike.
（ケンはマイクより背が高いです。）
☑ “～er than…“の形で「…よりも～」という意味を表します。

fast – faster – fastest
easy – easier – easiest

☑ 形容詞だけでなく副詞も比較級の文で使うことができます。
This flower is more beautiful than that one.
（この花はあの花よりも美しいです。）
☑ 長いつづりの形容詞を使う場合は，”～er than…”ではなく”more～than…“の形になります。

☑ 比較級の表現を強める場合は，veryではなくmuchを使います。
【問２】次の日本文を英文にしなさい。
Tom is younger than Mike.
He can swim faster than his brother.
This book is more interesting than that one.
This pencil is much shorter than mine.
③最上級「もっとも～」
Ken is the tallest in his class.
（ケンはクラスでもっとも背が高いです。）
Ken is the tallest of the three.
（ケンは３人のなかでもっとも背が高いです。）
☑ “the ～est“の形で「(─のなかで)もっとも(いちばん)～」という意味を表します。
▸範囲を表す語句を使う場合は”in～“
▸数を表す語句を使う場合は”of the 数名詞“
（※「すべてのなかで」は”of all”）
Kumi can run the fastest of the four.
（久美は４人のなかでいちばん速く走ることができます。）
☑ 形容詞だけでなく副詞も最上級の文で使うことができます。
This book is the most interesting of all.
（この本はすべてのなかでいちばんおもしろいです。）
☑ 長いつづりの形容詞を使う場合は，”the ～est”ではなく”the most～“の形になります。

Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan.
Keiko is the youngest of the five.
Takeshi can swim (the) fastest in his(our) class.

④better～・best～
I like coffee better than tea.
（私は紅茶よりもコーヒーが好きです。）
☑ “like Ａ better than Ｂ“の形で「ＢよりもＡが好き」という意味を表します。
I like dogs the best of all animals.
（私はすべての動物のなかで犬がいちばん好きです。）
☑ “like Ａ the best“の形で「Ａがもっとも好き」という意味を表します。

⑤その他の表現
最上級 Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan.
（富士山は日本でもっとも高い山です。）
比較級 Mt. Fuji is higher than any other mountain in Japan.
（富士山は日本のほかのどの山よりも高いです。）
☑ “比較級＋than any other 単数名詞“の形で「ほかのどの…よりも～」という意味を表します。
☑ 最上級の文からの書きかえができます。
Ken is one of the tallest boys in his class.
（ケンはクラスでもっとも背が高い男の子のうちの一人です。）
☑ “one of～“の形で「～のうちの一つ(ひとり)」という意味を表します。
☑ 「～」の部分には”最上級＋複数名詞“が入ります。
【問５】次の日本文を英文にしなさい。
She can swim faster than any other girl in her(our) class.
He is one of the most famous players in Japan.
